Ive been working on industrial machinery for years. Ive worked in various machine shops all around north east Ohio. I decided in my younger years to become a machinist because it was just another way to make things but with metal. I have always been a creative soul making mostly figures and statues and whatnot. As the years went by I began to tire of the mundane task of mass production. I would say it was about 2001 that I began to toy around with the idea of machining parts then welding them together to form statues. I did some rough blue prints on my lunch hour at a machine shop I was currently working at , then would go home and machine parts on some crude machinery I had in my garage. The machinery didnt give me very desirable results. I put the idea away for several years until I was urged by my cousin turned agent to start sculpting peices again after her husband fell in love with the Iron Cyclops statue which was just sitting on my welding table at my current machine shop. I now had access to better machinery so I decided to begin machining peices for three serious sculptures and them peices are Spoone,Surge, and Glyphon. Ive since done other peices such as Headstrong (which is currently at the Artist Review Today ) Hex and the Steel-Izzard. I have discovered that maching doesnt have to be so mundane after all when you are machining a peice for your own purpose you can be as creative as your mind allows. I am constantly trying to dream up new peices to machine for my sculptures and that I find enjoyable. My dream is to some day have larger and better machinery for doing larger statues but only time will tell until then I will keep the machinery oiled and running and my welder hot.
